Code Of Ethics & Professional Conduct

Preamble

Certified Professional Managers acknowledge that the following Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct is to be adhered to both in spirit and to the letter. In this way they can demonstrate that their conduct is governed by the highest standards of ethical behaviour and professionalism.

The following statements act as the critical factors by which a member's conduct may be reviewed and apply equally to members in paid employment and those who may be self-employed. In the case of self-employed CPMgr's the word 'employer' should be substituted with the word 'client'.

1. A CPMgr SHALL ACHIEVE AND MAINTAIN A HIGH LEVEL OF COMPETENCE

A CPMgr shall:

1.1 Maintain competency through education, training and work experience.

1.2 Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) in order to keep up-to-date in management issues and/or issues related specifically to their job function and their employment.

1.3 Undertake CPD hours in accordance with the requirements for certification and shall submit details to AIM SA at the completion of each triennium or as otherwise advised from time to time.

2. A CPMgr SHALL MAINTAIN A HIGH LEVEL OF PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL INTEGRITY

A CPMgr shall:

2.1 Exercise all due care and diligence in undertaking their duties.

2.2 Advise the proper authority of any knowledge of any dishonest or fraudulent acts committed against their employer by any person pertaining to the handling and/or accounting of funds, securities or other assets. The authority to whom the report is made shall depend on the nature and circumstances of the matter. Failure to report such knowledge is in itself misconduct and shall be treated as such under these rules.

3. A CPMgr SHALL MAINTAIN A HIGH STANDARD OF PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

A CPMgr shall:

3.1 Avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety and shall not engage in any conduct that would adversely affect their ability to manage. Such conduct may include, but not be limited to: violence, dishonesty or abuse of a professional position or public office.

3.2 Advise the proper authority of any knowledge of any action of another person with whom they work that clearly demonstrates deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation. The authority to whom the report is made shall depend on the nature and circumstances of the matter. Failure to report such knowledge is in itself misconduct and shall be treated as such under these rules.

3.3 Not knowingly assist any individual with the commission of an act that is in direct violation of this Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

3.4 Immediately report to the appropriate authority any knowledge of future criminal activity relating to their employer or wider employment.

4. A CPMgr SHALL PRESERVE ALL CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION PROVIDED OR OBTAINED FROM THEIR EMPLOYER AND/OR ACQUIRED FROM OTHER SOURCES

A CPMgr shall:

4.1 Be aware of and abide by all legal requirements in relation to the use of confidential information.

4.2 Not use confidential information to the disadvantage of their employer.

4.3 Not use confidential information to the advantage of himself or herself, another employee or a third party.

5. A CPMgr SHALL AVOID CONFLICTS OF INTEREST AND SHALL DISCLOSE ANY POSSIBLE CONFLICT TO THEIR EMPLOYER, AS WELL AS TO A PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYER

A CPMgr shall:

5.1 Act within the bounds of the law and shall be free of compromising influences and loyalties. Neither the person’s personal or business interest, nor that of a third party, should compromise their professional judgment and loyalty to their employer.

5.2 Avoid conflicts of interest that may arise from family relationships and from personal and business interests. Any activity where a conflict of interest may arise should be undertaken at arm’s length.

6. A CPMgr POSITION TITLE SHALL BE FULLY DISCLOSED

A CPMgr’s position title shall:

6.1 Clearly indicate the individual’s position within their organisation and should be disclosed in all business and professional communications to avoid misunderstandings and misconceptions.

7. A CPMgr SHALL SERVE THE COMMUNITY BY CONTRIBUTING TO THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE PROFESSION OF MANAGEMENT INCLUDING THE PROVISION OF PRO BONO SERVICES

A CPMgr shall:

7.1 Recognise that they represent the professional management community and promote the development and implementation of programs and services that demonstrate good business practice and principles.

7.2 Aspire to annually contribute Pro Bono services to community organisations that would benefit from their knowledge and expertise.

8. A CPMgr SHALL UPHOLD THE OBJECTIVES OF AIM SA AND ABIDE BY THE REQUIREMENTS AS STATED IN THE CONSTITUTION

A CPMgr shall:

8.1 Agree to be bound by the current provisions of the Constitution of the Australian Institute of Management South Australian Division Incorporated.

8.2 Support and assist the Institute in the achievement of its objectives including acting as CPMgr ambassadors within the business community.

INVESTIGATION/DISCIPLINE PROCEDURES

The current Constitution of AIM SA provides for the investigation/discipline procedures to be adopted should a member’s conduct need to be reviewed.
